July 15, 2009 - My Wensday Toy Bin - a poem

July 15, 2009

Hiya Folks,

Welcome to the sixth edition of My Wensday Toy Bin. As our kids grow and blossom, each day brings a new lesson for us to learn. My Wensday Toy Bin is full of valuable lessons my kids have taught me. Each week I will share one of my toys with you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Today I would like to share a poem I wrote many years ago. I love poetry...the art of telling so much in such few words. Maybe I am good…maybe I am not, I will let you judge that. But writing poetry gives me great pleasure. So here goes (bear with me, I was 24 when I wrote this one!)

-------------

The Invisible Bond

It was dark and dismal all around,
Her world had turned all upside down
Where did she come from, where would she go?
Answers to such questions she did not know

The girl who used to run like a hare,
Was now tied down to a chair
Those days of dancing, of laughing were over,
Would the nurse forever hover?

Life had lost all its purpose,
People stared as if watching a circus
One day amid her brooding despair,
A scratch on her door made her glare

Just as she would raise a din,
She saw a cat walk royally in
Regally she headed straight for bed,
And on the pillow laid her head.

The girl who had thought herself inept,
Watched protectively as the cat slept
Came the morn, the nurse walked in;
At the strange sight she began to grin.

The cat was curled in the girl’s arms,
as though for protection from all harm
Days went by and minutes ticked,
The girl learnt to laugh at the cat’s antics

Her thoughts soon filled with fun and cheer,
The cat had made it all so clear
While she would never walk or dance,
she had been given a second chance.

The cat taught her that life began,
When you loved someone and found love in return
Yes, the girl was no more alone,
What tied her was an Invisible Bond.

----------

This was not my first poem and certainly not my last. But in all my writings I have realized that I always write of optimism. I truly believe in Happy Endings…and that it is in our hands (or rather our minds). We will be happy, if we decide to be. We will be unhappy too, if we decide to be.

I am a hopeless optimist. I just can’t seem to regret my difficult experiences or decisions gone wrong. I hope to inspire the same sense of optimism in you (if you do not have it already).
