Work from Home - Our Journey Thus Far
Hey! It's so nice to finally meet you.

Decoratingideas4kidsrooms.com, our work from home website, has been online for almost a year now. You might have noticed my name on the 'My Wensday Toy Bin' bloglet I write on and off. And yet, we had not really met before.
Let me start by introducing ourselves. This is me, Richa, and my husband, Manoj. Oops. Is that grammatically incorrect? (I have a tendency to put myself first everywhere.)
This web-site is our joint labor of love. And our double dose of inspiration comes from our two little bundles of joy, 6 year old Armaan and 4 year old Rhea. Over the years, they have taught us a lot. Mainly that each child is joyously unique. And this ground reality is the basis and focus of our site.

That is why, on every page of this site, we ask you to spin the basic ideas we promote according to your child's unique personality, to weave your warmth into the fabric of the room, to entwine your love and his interests to create a kids room that is special in every way.
The Good Life + One Black Hole = Work from Home
By most standards, we are living a good life...a comfortable income, a comfortable rented apartment, a comfortable lifestyle. We have friends and some family close by. The kids go to school, come home and play with friends.
And yet, there seemed to be something missing...in MY life. There was an empty space and like a black hole it seemed to suck out all the joy and comfort from my seemingly joyous and comfortable life. I felt as if my life was passing me by while I sat comfortably on my sofa and watched like a stranger. Do you ever feel this way? I was very busy physically but there was hardly any mental stimulation (Thank God for Sudoku).
Perhaps caught up in the daily rut of 9 to 5, there is no time to notice, to take a step back and refocus on what you really want from life. But sitting at home, clearing up the clutter in the house has a way of clearing the clutter in your brain. And that is what happened to me. That...and a nasty wake up call. Here's my story...
"There is something better in store for you."
Before I married and began my life of global nomad, I was a travel professional. After the grueling 9 to 5 + + work hours and stress of a travel-related job, the idea of being a housewife and leading the lazy life in a foreign country was very appealing. The first few years simply flew by as first Armaan and then Rhea entered our lives and I started receiving my education in MOTHERHOOD.
In October of 2006, we arrived in the US, excited and eager. In March 2007 Manoj got an offer for a great job - higher pay; a long 2-year project with the possibility of extensions; in a city with a low cost of living. We moved to the new city as Manoj took up the offer.
Everything seemed to be on the up and up...and then, the bubble burst. 2 months into his new project, Manoj came home early one day – his project had been shelved. That was it. We had suddenly gone from being happy and carefree to anxious and stressed out in a space of 2 minutes.
Okay...deep breaths. We can face this. We checked our bank balance...we were good for a couple of months. Surely someone of his experience and caliber will be able to secure another project within two months. A few more deep breaths calmed us a bit.
As May turned to June and July loomed on the horizon, we were back to panicking. Inspite of a multitude of interviews, Manoj was not getting any offers. His confidence began to flag. He started to question his own skills. The responsibility of two little kids was weighing on us and we were getting ready to return to India, and the stability of the job structure there.
One consultant company came forward. They did not have a project for him yet, but they would give us use of their guest house...and thought his physical presence in that city would help his prospects. Investing the last of our savings, we booked our tickets. Looking back, this episode was the turning point of our lives...in more ways than one.
One short-term project and a new city later, by mid 2008, we were finally able to smile without a shadow crossing our eyes. What started as a 6 month project has now completed 2 years and counting.
Since that nasty wake up call, we had been actively looking for alternative income sources. We spent hours and hours on the Internet looking for a home business opportunity that was legitimate, produced results and did not cost a fortune. It took us more than a year...and then just as we were giving up, WE DISCOVERED SBI!
When we had removed Armaan's name from the school he was enrolled in (and we were depressed over the state of affairs), his teacher said "I'm sure there is something better in store for you." I remember thinking, "Hah! If only you knew." She was right. I now believe that everything happens for a reason. And that everything happens only when the time is right.
Why DecoratingIdeas4KidsRooms.com? From hobby to business
Did I think we would end up with a web-site on decorating kids rooms? Are you kidding? I was a travel professional, remember. My husband is a computer guy. We didn't know the D of decorating. Or so we thought. (Actually, we didn’t even know the D of designing a web-site or P of programming or H of html...you get the picture. In short, we didn't even know the ABC of this virtual world.)

SBI and their thorough Action Guide took us by the hand. They showed us our skills and abilities. They gave us the confidence to bring out our creativity. They taught us how to convert our dormant passion into a full-fledged work from home web business. (See How SBI Works)
They helped me discover my true passion. I had been decorating my kid's room as best I could in a rented apartment. I never dreamed my hobby could be my business.

Today I wake up with a spring in my step, an eagerness of what the day will bring. Decoratingideas4kidsrooms.com has brought back the joy in my life. I am still not comfortable – because I choose not to be.
Life is a challenge again...and this time I am in control.

If you want to regain control of your life, take the next step. Life is too short for ifs and buts. I have learnt that...
...Good is the enemy of Best.
Smiles
Richa
